About
Hey hey! You found me. You made it. To this corner of the internets that I’ve deemed embarrassingly self-indulgent.
But! I will try to make it up to you. Here, you will find all sorts of things – from healthy recipes to comfort food and indulgent desserts to cocktails and mocktails. We eat as seasonally as we can and use local ingredients every day. We eat, well… everything.
Because the thing is: I’m seriously passionately, inexplicably in love with food. Bacon makes me beam. Chocolate makes me shout from the rooftops with joy. Vegetables and I are the best of frenemies. My perfect world would include none of them. I grew up absolutely loathing veggies, but the world wide web has taught me how to enjoy green things such as kale and brussels sprouts. To the point where I actually want to consume them.
My mom is still in disbelief, yes.
And I have a terribly horrifying amount of cheese in my cheese drawer. Real life.
I have an unnatural obsession with James Taylor’s music. Contrary to popular belief, the name of this blog has nothing to do with the plethora of sugar we’ve got going on – but because the song “How Sweet It Is” is constantly streaming in my mind. Sometimes it’s loud. I’m also secretly 70 years old. Or around there.
I’m so much more of a cook than a baker because, let’s be real: I hate to follow instructions of any kind. I was a kid of the internet generation: I get way too bored and end up doing what I want nearly all of the time. This is great for an entrepreneur; this is not so great for interacting in life with other humans.
For more delicious recipes and rambles, you can find my best-selling cookbook, Seriously Delish, anywhere books are sold, or right here. My second cookbook, The Pretty Dish, was released in 2018 and also hit the bestsellers lists! Both books are full of brand new recipes that aren’t here on the blog. You can find out more information about my cookbooks here.
I am totally self-taught/mom-taught/grandma-taught and have no formal culinary training, just tons of mess-ups in the kitchen. I test most of my recipes at least once, but by no means claim to be a culinary genius. Except for that time when I was three months pregnant and thought mac and cheese crostini could be a thing. Spoiler alert: it couldn’t.
And then: you can find some daily musings on my life in crumbs. Tuesday Things, weekend posts, travel, favorites and general lifestyle rambles live there – a place where I can’t be bothered to pick up my DSLR and still blog like it’s 2008. I post pictures of my spoon waist-deep in a peanut butter jar. Sometimes I share pictures of my {really} messy kitchen. Or talk about how I watch way too much TV. It all evens out. I hope?
In my spare time, I love reading, writing fiction and practicing yoga. And margaritas. Obviously.
This is the camera that I use. This is the lens. More riveting questions and answers can be found here, in FAQs. I find FAQs to be slightly obnoxious, so of course I needed to have one.
I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with my husband who enjoys copious amounts of steak, Garth Brooks cassette tapes and framed photos of WWF wrestlers. (<ten years later, this has not changed. They are stashed in a deep dark place in my basement where I will forever hope he forgets about them.) In December of 2014, we welcomed Max into the world, who turned my life upside down in the best way possible and is the sweetest chubbabug in the universe, aside from the fact that he hates anything that has to do with sleep. In November 2017, we welcomed Emilia, who I was sure was a boy but came out as the sweetest sack of sugar baby girl and has made us the happiest family of four. You can find more about them and our adventures as a family over on the baby page, which might interest about 7% of you but keeps me sane since I can write as much word vomit as I want.
All creations, writing and photography are my own, unless otherwise noted.
If your little heart desires, you can contact me – I like hearing from you. Emails can be sent to howsweeteats [at] gmail [dot] com. If you have a specific question, please see the FAQs. I try super hard to respond to every email and comment I receive, but some inevitably slip through the cracks. The best chance of me responding to you is if you leave a comment on a recent post, or ask a question on Facebook. If you have a specific question regarding a recipe, please comment on the post or ask on Facebook first (heck, even tweet me) – both are open forums and others often have the same inquiry.
You can ‘like’ How Sweet It Is on Facebook and follow along on Twitter. I can also be found on Instagram, Pinterest, Foodgawker, Tastespotting, Stumbleupon and as a contributor on The Pioneer Woman. For more info on privacy policies, click here.
