Dill Pickle Chicken Salad.
We adore this dill pickle chicken salad. It’s wonderful to make ahead of time and an excellent lunch for the warmer months. Serve with toast or crackers, on sandwiches, in lettuce cups, wraps or on salad!
Lunch is on me today!!
I’m still on a mission to bring us lots of delicious lunch ideas this year, and right here I’ve got a new favorite! This dill pickle chicken salad is modeled after my summer chicken salad and lemon almond roast chicken salad, but loaded with all the flavor of dill pickles.
It’s chunky and satisfying with the perfect base of pickle-y yogurt and mayo.
And it’s classic enough to enjoy in just about any way! Ideal for make-ahead meals as well as summer lunch plates.
I like to do croissants. Or sandwiches. Open-faced on toast, with crackers, in lettuce cups or even on salad. Also scooped up with chips because that is one of the best things ever.
I’m instantly transported to when I was a kid and used to dip my potato chips in the pickle juice that remained on my plate at a summer BBQ.
Seriously it does not get any better than that.
One of my longest love affairs is with the dill pickle!
I have loved pickles for as long as I can remember. My mom still talks about how I loved olives and pickles as a baby and that’s never left. I used to eat pickles as a snack after school and I put them on just about anything. Nothing has changed.
Chicken salad is a different story. It’s always been just “meh” for me, except for my mom’s. And only when she would make it without celery. I swear I am not picky – ha!
But I’ve rambled before about how traditional deli salads are usually too wet and mayo-based for me, so I’ve taken to making my own at home that I feel has the perfect ratio of everything! This is one of those.
The key to making this extra delicious is to use dill pickle and sweet relish. A mix of both. You could use a mix of both chopped pickles too! I find that makes it extra special.
To make it, I combine some shredded chicken, diced red onion and chopped pickles in a bowl.
Then I whisk together some plain greek yogurt, a little mayo, the sweet relish, mustard, some fresh and dried herbs and lots of salt and pepper.
Then I combine them! I mix until there is an excellent little chicken salad happening in this bowl and then I go.to.town.
OH YES.
I adore this and am so excited to have another lunchtime option! It reminds me of my chopped cheeseburger salad that has a dill pickle vinaigrette – I can never get enough of that. It’s drinkable.
So this salad hits the spot and really makes a huge impact as far as my pickle fascination goes.
LIVING for it.

Love your Recipes I love new ideals in the Kitchen .Thanks Alot.
Not meaning to sound lazy, but could you use Dill Relish rather then chopping dill pickles ? Or is there some reason for chopping up dill pickles but your using sweet pickle relish and not chopping sweet pickles?
i like to chop the dill pickles because you get more texture – they are bigger pieces and not soft like the relish is! plus, there are a lot more dill pickles than the relish!
Is it weird that I just had this for breakfast because I just couldn’t wait until lunch! So good it’s off the charts!
haha makes me so happy!!
What kind of dill pickles do you use? I never know if I should use Kosher dill or Polish dill pickles in recipes!! Thank you! Definitely making this for lunches!
i usually use kosher dill pickles!
Thank you so much! Can’t wait to make this! I also hate celery in chicken salad so this recipe is perfect for me!
Had this on fresh baked whole wheat herb and garlic artisan bread
It was delicious and will certainly be a summer favourite!
Delicious! Just made it for lunches with leftover chicken and had a few spoonfuls.
This is how chicken salad is supposed to. My grandmother from Texas taught me how to make this when I was a tween. And this is how I told all my children. All that stuff was grapes and nuts and the kitchen sink is crazy to me. The only difference is she added celery salt and sometimes served it in boiled eggs as deviled eggs. But I like how you use the Greek yogurt instead of so much mayonnaise. I’m going to try that. 🥰
I made this for lunches this week. I just used kosher dill pickles as I didn’t have any relish. So, so good. Lots of flavor.
So good! Picky husband-APPROVED :) we also don’t like celery in salads so this was such a refreshing way to add to a chicken salad. Making it right now, second week in a row!
This turned out to be delicious! You could easily make it into a tuna salad recipe too. I added fresh dill and chives and it’s 👍🏻👍🏻
So delicious and easy!
We never have sweet relish or sweet pickles in the house because… ew. BUT love dill pickles – could I omit the sweet relish or swap for a dab of honey or something?
So quick, easy, and delicious! It’s pickle season in the Midwest, so it’s the perfect season. I added a splash of lemon to brighten it up a bit more – and it is so good!! Great weeknight quick meal.
What can I use in place of the yogurt?
Easy and delicious. Love it in lettuce cups!❤️
